M198 Inspect and Repair Program
Mandus Group is currently working with its partner, the Rock Island Arsenal, to inspect and repair 120 M198 howitzers that will be placed in service with the Iraqi Army. Work began in September of 2010 and currently all deadlines have been met and all expectations have been exceeded. This is due to the expert team of M198 specialists assembled by Mandus Group combined with the skilled artillery technicians, resources, and facilities of The Rock Island Arsenal's state of the art manufacturing center.
Team members from Mandus Group handpicked the M198 howitzers that are being repaired from the hundreds that have been decommissioned and stored at various locations such as Sierra Army Depot and Barstow Marine Corps Depot. Once the weapons arrive at the Rock Island Arsenal, the members of the artillery rebuild team inspect them and develop a specific repair strategy for each weapon. The howitzers are then dissembled and the component parts are sent to work centers throughout the Arsenal complex for repair and painting. This includes a complete recoil rebuild in the Arsenals state of the art recoil shop. The revitalized parts are then returned to the Mandus Group team for reassembly and the restored howitzer is packaged for shipping. This approach streamlines the inspect and repair process eliminating redundant procedures thus reducing costs and ensuring on time delivery.
The Mandus Group / Rock Island Arsenal Team are uniquely qualified to handle repair, modifications, and upgrades on the M198 howitzer considering their vast knowledge and experience with this weapon that dates back to its initial design and manufacture at the Rock Island Arsenal. This expertise is not limited to the M198 and also includes all current and legacy U.S. howitzers, self-propelled howitzers, as well as most internationally produced artillery models.
